Brushless Motor (BLDC) Technology

We are always focused on improving the efficiency of our products, thus the constant adoption of new technologies. Our latest product redevelopment focused on adopting Brushless Motor Technology for all tool heads.

A motor is a device in your tool’s head that creates the revolutions required to rotate the drill bits, circular saws, among others. A motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, which creates the tool’s head rotations, making it an essential part of our tools. Our focus on quality and efficiency has had us adopt the latest motor technology to ensure you work smoothly and improve the durability of your DOER tools.

Brushless motor technology is an invention towards improved efficiency, which was traditionally unachievable with brushed motors. Brushless DC electric motor (BLDC motors, BL motors), also known as electronically commutated motors (ECMs, EC motors), are synchronous motors powered by DC electricity via an inverter or switching power supply that produces an AC electric current to drive each phase of the motor via a closed-loop controller. The controller provides pulses of current to the motor windings that control the speed and torque of the motor.

Both brushless and brushed DC electric motors operate on magnetic attraction and repulsion. The difference is in the way they are constructed. Brushless motor technology uses electric commutation to rotate the stator’s magnetic field, while a brushed motor uses carbon brushes and a mechanical commutator.

Why Brushless Motor (BLDC) Technology?

Brushless motors, although more expensive, have numerous advantages over traditional brushed motors, making them a worthy adoption for our DOER tools.

  1. Unlike traditional brushed motors, brushless motors do not have any carbon brushes, thus no wearing out and consequent replacement of the brushes, saving on maintenance costs.

  2. The involvement of electronic controls for speed and motor position in brushless DC motors offers better performance and efficiency than brushed DC motors.

  3. Brushless DC motors have a 6-times longer lifespan than brushed motors. The lack of brushes in brushless motors minimize the risk of burnout and spark issues that could destroy the motors.

  4. Brushless motors produce very little noise compared to brushed motors. The contact brushes in brushed motors create noise and sparking during rotations, which is not the case with brushless motors because they do not have contact brushes, thus minimizing noise.

  5. Brushless motor technology enables brushless motors to produce consistent maximum torque during rotation, unlike brushed motors, which produce maximum torque at only a specific rotation point. A brushless motor produces more maximum torque than a brushed motor of the same size.

  6. Brushless motors produce much less heat than brushed motors, which have heating problems due to the friction from contact brushes and the presence of an electromagnet at the motor center.

  7. Speed controls and efficiency of brushless motors reduce power consumption, increasing battery life.

There are many more advantages of brushless motors. However, I believe you now understand why we adopted brushless motor technology with the few listed above. Every change we make aims to make the DOER tools more efficient for you.
